What patients say

  • My experience with Southern California Center for Oral and Facial Surgery was extremely disappointing. To begin with, my appointment was changed three separate times. First, I received a text message rescheduling it. Then, on the day of my appointment, it was moved to the following day. Within an hour of that change, I received another call asking if I could come in at 11:00 a.m. instead. Despite all the scheduling issues, I remained patient, flexible, and respectful. The one bright spot was the front desk staff member who assisted me. She was kind, understanding, professional, and made me feel heard and respected. She was the only person during this experience who validated my concerns. Unfortunately, my interaction with the doctor was the complete opposite. He asked me to rate my pain level, and I explained that I was experiencing a dull, tender pain that I would rate as a 5 out of 10. Rather than focusing on why I was there, he spent several minutes arguing with me about what a "5" should mean. I explained that I have experienced severe tooth pain before that I would consider a 10, which is why I rated my current pain as a 5. Instead of listening, he became increasingly dismissive and argumentative. Eventually, after going back and forth, he asked what number he thought my pain should be and said a 3 or 4. At that point, I simply agreed because I wanted to move on with the appointment. What was most frustrating was that he seemed far more interested in telling me that my symptoms were stress-related than investigating the concerns I came in for. I explained that I have dealt with this issue for years and that I have two severely worn-down molars. Whether stress contributes to it or not, I expected a specialist to discuss treatment options and show some interest in helping me. Instead, I felt dismissed, judged, and spoken down to. I left feeling like my concerns were not taken seriously and that there was little compassion or willingness to help. Based on my experience, I would recommend seeking a second opinion or asking for a different provider if possible. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the most disappointing interactions I have had with a medical professional.

  • I recently had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Liu and his team. They were an excellent team who made me feel comfortable throughout the process. I had almost zero pain or swelling, and my healing process has been very smooth post-surgery. I highly encourage everyone to request a consult and follow through with the team regarding any procedures. They are a welcoming staff who have always been very helpful! Thank you to SCCOFS !
